Rome Welcomes the 58th FIDI Conference

The 58th FIDI conference took place this year in Rome from 26-30 April, 2009, and gathered an impressive number of participants: more than 380 companies, and over 700 people from all over the world.

Fourteen people represented the AGS Group, and each person had an opportunity to organize meetings and to network with partners and agents with whom we have close business ties. The atmosphere was festive and the meetings were very interesting; some new agents joined FIDI, thus making new contacts easily accessible.

Despite the current dismal situation of the moving industry in some parts of the world, all the participants were in high spirits and existing ties with some of our partners were strengthened, thanks to the inspiration and allure of Rome.

The organisation of this event was flawless, from the accommodation and guided tours in Rome, to the conferences and work meetings.

Various topics were tackled, and amongst these, Luis Roque from the US State Department spoke about the economy, with the title: ‘Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?’ The delivery of the last topic was accompanied by Linda Bauer Darr (AMSA), Terry Head (IAM) and Evelyn de Jaen (LACMA).

Another workshop was headed by several managing directors, such as Michael Gerson, Lars Iversen from Santa Fe, Cliff Williamson from Transpack Argentina, and Bryan Putt from AIReS. The theme of this workshop was "Business Management at a Time of Crisis". The aim was to highlight the impact of the worldwide crises in our industry.

The agents in Italy arranged a party at the Hilton in the hotel’s gardens and invited all the participants. In addition, three Italian companies invited 400 FIDI members to a dinner at an old palace in Rome.

FIDI honoured the managing directors of those companies that promote and organise for training at the FIDI academy. Alain Taieb received a prize from the FIDI Board in person.

The next FIDI convention will take place next year in Melbourne, where a large number of members are expected, and even though this destination is so distant, it still sparks much interest and fascination.

AGS would like to extend its thanks to FIDI, and will definitely be attending the 2010 seminar in Australia.

AGS Returns to Brazzaville

After ten years, the Congo has finally found stability, favourable to economic development and prosperity, and this is in direct contrast to the rest of the world facing an economic crisis.

Private companies and foreign investment have returned to the country, accelerating the economic upturn. With projects flourishing in the Republic of Congo, many are ambitious about Pointe Noire becoming the “entry gate for Central Africa”.

AGS Frasers Congo’s branch in Brazzaville was destroyed during the war, and all operational activities for the Republic of Congo, as a whole, were transferred to Pointe Noire. In 2008, encouraging signs made it possible to envision business activities in the capital city. AGS then began to rebuild its branch in Brazzaville.

At the beginning of this year, and under the management of Guillaume Demetz and Jerôme Poumarat, AGS Frasers Congo reopened its doors in Brazzaville. This AGS subsidiary offers, once again, all mobility-related services with an unsurpassed standard of quality, characteristic of the AGS Group.

This newly-reopened subsidiary has already been entrusted with the moves of Congolese diplomats and international organizations - what a comeback for AGS Frasers Congo Brazzaville!

AGS Warsaw Participates in the Ambassador's Cup

The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Poland organises a football tournament every year, the Ambassador’s Cup, and several French companies participate.

This year, the tournament took place on Saturday, 28 March, under the spring sun. The AGS Warsaw team participated in the event, and proudly defended the colours of the Group whilst giving their opponents a good game!

A dozen teams competed against each other, amongst which were the French groups Carrefour, Décathlon, Leroy Merlin, Coplan, Michelin and many more.

The players’ families, friends and colleagues joined the directors of the participating companies, as well as the Embassy and CCI official representatives in the grandstands. They were all present to support the players!

Owing to their motivation and determination, the AGS team achieved 3rd position in the tournament. Daniel Maître, the newly appointed Business Section Manager of the French Embassy in Poland, presented the trophy to the winning team, Bonduelle, at the end of the day.

The ambiance of the day was amazing, and the French community in Poland came together and had a good time. The AGS Warsaw team will definitely participate again next year!
