AGS – An Expert in International Moves
As a professional in the moving industry, Eric Derouet, AGS Paris' Key Account Director, answers a few questions:
In this crisis period, what did you notice about the moving industry?
Regarding the moving industry, I would speak about evolution rather than crisis. The turnover remained stable between 2007 and 2008, but expatriations are lower in comparison to a significant increase in the number of impatriations.
What techniques have you developed at the level of the moving operation itself?
AGS offers its clients a complete service: door-to-door moves, packing and unpacking, loading and unloading, the option of a consolidated shipment, and the option to use the European Liftvan - a unique container designed by the AGS Group. This is in line with our sustainable development charter.
What makes this liftvan ecological? What are the objectives of the AGS Group regarding sustainable development?
The compact size of the European Liftvan makes it easier to transport via traditional carriers, and it therefore prevents partial loads, thus reducing the number of trucks on the road and diesel emissions. In addition, our expert packing techniques optimise the use of space.
Transportation by water is preferred over road transportation wherever possible. An example of this is AGS Paris which frequently makes use of barges on the river Seine for the transportation of 20 and 40 foot containers, to the port of Le Havre for exports by sea. This mode of transportation has been in use since 2008 at our branches in Troyes and Lyon.
Quality packing materials are used as these can be recycled. We also participate in the reforestation of some African deserts - one new tree planted for each carton used!
The AGS Group endeavours to collaborate with its partners in certain countries to avoid the use of child labour, for example, when unloading containers upon the arrival of air and ocean carriers at destination.
All this is in line with sustainable development, as we are aware not only of our impact on the eco system, but also on human development. We are highly respectful of all these aspects and are ahead in our profession, thanks to the use of these practices.
What advice would you give to people who are looking for an international moving company?
In this period of crises, one must check a service provider’s financial strength in the selection of a mover, including its ability to deal with any unforeseen situations that can arise during a move process.
A strong presence overseas, through an efficient and experienced network, is an asset in terms of customs clearance processes, which can mean delays for some companies in the delivery of imported goods.
