Lisbon, a key event for the AGS Group

For several years now, the European seminars have been a gathering place for all the AGS Group branch managers and the sales advisors, as well as several corporate clients and international partners. This year the group’s General Management aimed to enlarge the scope of attendees, in order to mark the opening of the AGS group in Asia.

On the first day, which was aimed at all of the networks, general subjects were tackled, such as Quality and Customer Service. During the next two days, managers worked in workshops, according to their networks or common interests, on specific management subjects and on questions of improvement or training.

A whole day was dedicated to training and to presenting the new services, as well as the latest advancements made in our I.T. system.

On the last day, representatives from many of the group’s clients and international partners joined us and our Chairman, Alain E. Taïeb, who presented the group’s progress to date, and the newest projects. Our London branch and the AGS Four Winds Asia network were the key players in this presentation.

The day ended with votes taken from all of the participants, to determine which city would host the next seminar. Prague was chosen, probably because it is globally renowned as one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. Another reason for Prague winning the vote is owing to the AGS Prague Manager, Roman Subert, who expressed his enthusiasm to host this important event on behalf of the AGS Group.

AGS Frasers welcomes Koffi Annan back to his native country

Mr and Mrs Koffi Annan’s move from New York to Accra was entrusted to AGS Frasers Ghana for the importation and delivery of their personal belongings. It was an honour for the whole AGS team to be of service to the former General Secretary of United Nations, an accomplished and young retiree.

AGS Frasers believe that each and every customer deserves the best, and of course this operation was no exception. As soon as this move arrived by sea in Ghana, AGS Frasers customs cleared the shipment and speedily ensured that the container was available for delivery. The personal effects were delivered to their new residence and unpacked the next morning.

Trusting the professional care of AGS Frasers, the former General secretary and his wife were visibly impressed by the quality of service that was provided to them by AGS Frasers. The AGS Frasers team was even authorized to photograph Mr and Mrs Annan, much to Mr and Mrs. Annan’s delight, with some of the AGS Frasers crew members.

The United Nations has been a faithful customer of AGS Frasers since 1992, shortly after AGS gained a presence in Africa. In 2006, AGS Frasers managed over a thousand moves in Africa for the United Nations, as well as moves for the expatriate staff from the International Criminal Court in Rwanda and Tanzania. AGS Zagreb supports Croatian children in need

Within the framework of charity activities, organized by the club of International Military Attachés of Croatia, AGS Zagreb gave their logistical and financial support in the organization of a charity ball.

The proceeds from the event were donated towards the creation of the center for the rehabilitation of mentally and physically handicapped children of Požega, which is situated east of Croatia.

Owing to the financial assistance of their customers and AGS head office, AGS Zagreb was able to donate a refrigerator-freezer to the new centre for Christmas.

The construction of this center was financed by the Military Attaché Club’s charity activities, as well as by many other Croatian and international donors.

AGS Zagreb’s contribution towards the construction of the center was much appreciated by the center’s Director, who has persevered and invested a large amount of time, in order to achieve the results brought about by the project.

AGS Zagreb is delighted to be able to contribute towards the development of medical infrastructures in the areas of Croatia that are in need.

AGS Lagos sponsors charities

The 12th annual Small World event in Lagos, representing over 50 nations, featured ‘The Magic of Music’ extravaganza. This event was orchestrated through a variety of street and stage performances, with the assistance of AGS Lagos and other sponsors.

Every year in May, hundreds of volunteers donate their time and resources in order to plan the annual Small World event. AGS Lagos, amongst other sponsors, provided materials, manpower, and other essential goods that were necessary to make the event successful. Small World aims to give back to the many charities, who are dedicated to helping the disadvantaged people throughout Nigeria.

Funds were raised through ticket sales to the annual Small World events, as well as from advertising space sold in the event programs. Every year since 1993, funds raised from the events are distributed evenly amongst a growing number of charities. AGS Lagos is committed to serving the community, and participating in the annual “Small World Event” helps to improve the lives of many!

Customs agency’s tardiness slows down cargo clearing in Nigeria

Despite the introduction of reform measures, designed to improve the clearing process in Nigerian ports, the turnaround time for the delivery of imported cargo remains high, at over 33 days.

This period represents the time of discharge of consignments at the ports, to the time of final delivery to their owners. This is the result of a survey conducted by Maersk Sealand, one of the world’s mega carriers, also operating in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), shipping companies, security agencies and banks all rely heavily on the manual procedure in the treatment of cargo delivery documents. The NCS has reduced the number of desks and personnel involved in the clearing of goods, but the continuing manual application of the approval process, as well as the poor communication with agencies involved in the clearing of goods, contribute to the high turn-around time.

Another aggravating factor is the insistence that payment for customs duties and other charges can only be made to the manager at the port of discharge. Certified documents confirming payments made to banks is still conducted manually, with daily shuttles between the banks and the ports.

A security agency’s actions, such as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), also add to the delay for the delivery of goods. Containers from India, Pakistan and other Asian countries are under constant scrutiny. Shipping companies are not allowed to release these containers until NDLEA operatives give the go-ahead.

With even more containers being shipped into the country, overall delays are expected to increase.
