Our Commitment to the Environment

For every international move, AGS plants a tree in Mali or Indonesia.

As a removals company, we are working in an industry that by its very nature can negatively affect our planet. The packing materials used and transportation required calls for us to take action to lessen our impact on the environment. As a responsible company, AGS has put in place a number of green policies to ensure we go above and beyond industry environmental standards.

Reforestation

For every international removal operation, AGS plants a tree in Mali or planete Urgence logoin Indonesia.

Reforestation not only combats global warming, it also reinforces economic independence in local communities. Find out more about Planète Urgence and AGS’ reforestation initiative.

European Lift Vans

Over the last five years, AGS has invested extensively in the innovation and modernisation of its equipment through the creation of the European Lift Van. The European Lift Van combines flexibility, efficiency and security, which reduce the carbon footprint.

Due to the compact size of the European Lift Van, which can be transported via standard carriers, partial loads are prevented, thus reducing the number of trucks on the road.

FIDI/FAIM Standards

In order to maintain our FAIM accreditations, and in accordance with our Quality Control procedures, all AGS branches and offices are subject to regular on-site evaluations. The aim is to assess how well we follow procedures, to guarantee that environmental criteria are respected and that we conform to FIDI’s strict standards:

  • Sorting plastic, paper and cardboard for recycling.
  • Recycling printer cartridges.
  • Communicating electronically to reduce paper consumption.
  • Using packing material of quality that can be recycled.
  • Preventative maintenance programs for all vehicles.
  • Minimising road transportation with the use of water transportation.
  • Regulated disposal of motor oil.
  • Disposal of batteries.
  • Use of energy-saving light bulbs.

Recycling and Paper

Plastics, paper and cardboard are sorted for recycling in all our branches. Moreover, ink cartridges are recycled and we print on recycled paper.

We encourage the use of emails, both internally and with clients and partners. By reducing fax and mail services, we decrease paper consumption.

Sea and Waterway Transport

Whenever possible, AGS uses sea and waterway transport rather than air and road transport. Every year, AGS reduces its CO² emissions by 133 tonnes!

Data in figures:

Waterway Transport

Gross weight of a TC20 (TEU): 7 Tonnes

  • Road emission of CO² in g/TK (grams per tonne and per km): 164 g/TK
  • River emission of CO² in g/TK (grams per tonne and per km): 35,5 g/TK

CO2 emissions for a TC20 transported by road

  • Distance by road: 195 km
  • Emission of CO² for a TEU transported by road:
        = 164 g/TK * 7 T * 195 km = 223 860g of CO² ~ 224 kg of CO²

Emissions of CO² for a TC20 transported by river

  • Distance in river transportation: 340 km of river and 6 km of road
  • Emission of CO² for a TEU transported by river:
        = (164 g/TK * 7 T * 6 km) + (35, 5 g/TK * 7 T * 340 km) = 91 378g of CO² ~ 91 kg of CO²

Reduction of Carbon Emissions

Packing

All our branches recyle their packing materials wherever local infrastuctures allow it.

We also use special packing techniques to optimise the use of space. This reduces volume and the impact of transport on the environment.

AGS Vehicles

AGS implements a preventative and regular maintenance programme for all vehicles (trucks, cars, forklifts) to reduce the effect of greenhouse gases on the environment. Moreover, oils from waste and batteries are returned. Maritime and inter-modal freight transportation is used as often as possible.

Other Actions

We advise all employees to switch off their computers and lights before leaving the office.

We try to increase staff awareness about environmental issues by involving them in our ecological initiatives, and provide them with information on easy methods to prevent damage to the environment.
